Trivia Question:

Assuming that our acting winners are Philip Seymour Hoffman, Reese Witherspoon, George Clooney (or even Paul Giamatti), and Rachel Weisz (or even Michelle Williams), when was the last time that all 4 winners were also first-time nominees?

My records indicate that such a feat has not occurred since the 1961/1962 ceremony...

Maximilian Schell, Sophia Loren, George Chakiris, and Rita Moreno all won as first-time nominees, and this would be the first time that has happened in over 40 years.

Anonymous... care to reveal yourself? You are the winner! It took me a little while to research that answer.

I bet it has only happened a handful of times until you go way back when the Oscars were being handed out for the first time.

The anonymous would be me... long-time reader, first-time poster, yadda yadda.

Yeah, I was expecting to just go back a couple years and ended up browsing through 40 years of Oscar history. I almost gave up hope when I discovered that CHER of all people wasn't even a first-time nominee when she won.

Keep up the good work.

There were a couple of years when I thought I had it pegged -- 1987 was one, and one or two in the '70s.

1997, i think:
Fraces McDormand (Fargo)
Geoffrey Rush (Shine)
Juliette Binoche (The English Patient)
Cuba Gooding Jr. (Jerry Maguire)

1996: I briefly thought that was right, but McDormand was nominated previously for "Mississippi Burning."
